Doorway

Our commitment

Fair housing at Doorway

Every apartment we list is available to every qualified applicant on the same terms. We are an equal housing opportunity brokerage, and we hold our agents to it.

What that means in practice

We show every renter the full set of listings that match what they asked for. We quote the same rent, the same fees and the same terms to everyone. We do not steer anyone toward or away from a neighborhood, a building or a unit, and we do not screen an application on anything other than the same criteria we ask every applicant for on our application. A landlord’s preference is never a reason for us to do otherwise.

Characteristics protected by law

Federal, New York State and New York City law protect renters from discrimination in housing on the basis of, among others:

  • Race, creed, color and national origin
  • Sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, and sex
  • Age, disability and familial status
  • Marital status and military status
  • Lawful source of income — including housing vouchers and subsidies

This list is not exhaustive. The full set of protected characteristics is set out in our NYS Housing Discrimination Disclosure Form.

If you believe you were discriminated against

Tell us — every complaint reaches a principal, not an agent. You do not have to go through us first, and nothing on this page limits your right to file directly with the New York State Division of Human Rights:
